Notes-

· flying penguins are unusual when they fly on a c-130 hercules military plane.
· Brizil, 373 young magellanic penguins were recued, rehabilitated and released last week after their search for food left them standed, hundereds of miles from there regular feeding grounds.
· Loaded the birds onto a brazilian air force caro plane and flew them 1,550 miles to the countrys southern coast.
· Onlookers celebrated as the penguins marched back into the sea.
· Penguins are warm-wseather birds.
· And breed in large colonies in southern argentina and chile.
· Young animals then migrate north between march and september.fallowing their favorite fish, anchovy.
· The bired are named after portuguese explorer ferdinand magellan who first saw them in 1519.
· Changes in the currents and water tempeture apparently confused the juvenile birds, who went to far north to the warm beaches of salvador, brizil, 870 miles north of sao paulo, brazil.
· Starting mid july the northeastern brazilian state of bashia,”it was just about raining penguins”
· There was not much food supply in northeastern brazilian state of bashia the birds were straned and emaciated they had lost all their muscles and body conditions
The Brazilian Institute for Environment and Renewable Resources”fewer then 20 penguins usually wash ashore, we had to really understand their biology and learn how to treat them.
· (Institute for Aquatic Mammals) also fed and cared for the hungry and confused birds.
IFAW, has a lot of experience saving penguins and other animals injured
They are trying to save the bird as much as possible.
Healthy magellanic penguins grow to about 27 inches tall and weigh about 9 pounds .
They where loaded back on the plane to there jorney to pelotas, in sounthern brazil went on a truck ride to the center for recovery of marine animals, where they rested for 24 hours.
The bird where released at the cassino beach the next day had to meet vary specific health criteria .that had to be back to normal before they where released.
They where released with small group of adult penguins that had been nursed back to surviving an oil spill
Scientist expected the older bird will help guide the little ones nearby feeding grounds.
Some birds are still being treated in the south and northern Brazil.
The released birds have bands on their flippers so scientist can fallow their progress and learn more about their migratory habits.
Of more then 1,600 penguins that washed ashore in northern Brazil, about half are still alive.
Fairly good outcome, given the fragile status of young birds on their first migration.
With out quick human help the consequences would have been much worse
at this point they don’t why exactly why the animals became stranded
Now the magellanic penguin’s population is not in jeopardy because of this one event.

Response:
To me this is very unusual because penguins in Britain. It sound like it not suppose to be like that because I thought penguins had to be in colder areas but for these magellanic penguins are warm-weather birds. The reason for why they are in britan is because they took a wrong turn down a bad path because they got lost and they ended up way to far north. There where about 1,600 penguins wow! That is a lot. The peguins where transferred to all kinds of different resoces area to be helped because of the oil spil that they had gone through. A healthy magellanic penguins grow about 27 inches tal and weigh about 9 pounds. They where relsed after being cured in groups and each of the groups had an adult peguin to hel;p guide the small and youger pengiuns to the nearest feeding grounds. But so of the bird are being treated. Everybody stephed up and if it weren’t for the human help the conseguences would have been much worse. They don’t know why this happened at this point. I think they should figure out why this happened so this wont happen again because over half of those 1600 pengiuns only half are still alive.
